The launch of the most anticipated SUV is upon us and our Editor, Vuyi Mpofu will be in attendance to welcome it.
As the first ever convertible, the highly desirable Evoque Cabriolet undoubtedly shares all the traditional DNA of the Range Rover brand, without compromising on elegance, luxury, safety and of course, capability.
First seen in the metal at the South African Festival of Motoring a few months ago, we are confident that the first ever luxury SUV line up will feature Land Rover’s full suite of lightweight, all-aluminium four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and will be underpinned by Land Rover’s world-class all-terrain capability as well as have the same advanced technologies found in its older siblings, the Evoque five-door and Coupé derivatives.
“I can’t imagine going bundu-bashing in a convertible and no, sitting in the back of my dad’s open bakkie when I was younger doesn’t count!,” Ms Mpofu laughed, “but I hope we get to take the Evoque Cabriolet out of the city and onto the dusty trails within the country-side so that we can explore a few of Land Rover’s legendary technology, such as the Terrain Response® system, Wade Sensing and All-Terrain Progress Control”.
The ground-breaking and distinctive shape of the original Range Rover Evoque lends itself to an elegant convertible design and the new model sits at the pinnacle of the Evoque portfolio as the most exclusive and capable convertible in the world.
“In South Africa, we have an aversion to taking pretty SUVs off road no matter how capable the manufacturer tells us they are” Ms Mpofu said, “and it will be interesting to see how Jaguar Land Rover SA goes about educating the market that underneath it’s desirable and eye-catching exterior, their SUV cabriolet is just as much at home in the wild as it is in the city”, she added.
The new Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be produced at Land Rover’s Halewood plant in the UK, alongside the five-door and Coupe derivatives. South Africa is one of 170 markets it will be available in.
